1731 Fine & Rare Belize 7 ans 46° : Description and customer reviews

1731 Fine & Rare Belize 7 Ans is a single origin rum from Dutch bottler 1731. It comes from the Travellers distillery, the largest in the country. It produces exclusively molasses rums, distilled in a unique traditional triple column.

This rum has spent at least 7 years in bourbon casks. It has been bottled without coloring or cold filtration.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, the woodiness is greedy but also seems very old-fashioned, rustic, with a melted, past character. You get the feeling that the tannins have mellowed with age, that they've been forgotten for a while in a barn or even a stable.

Aeration develops astonishing chocolate notes, which seem to come from different cocoa beans. Some are dark, others rounder, some really roasted, others more fermented. Vanilla slips through the wood fibers, with a rustic touch of its own.

On the palate, the rustic character comes through much less, if at all. The woodiness is now typical of American oak, with vanilla, blond tobacco, sweet caramel and a touch of coconut milk.

The finish is a little spicier, and the cocoa is quite bitter.

"An old-fashioned, rustic character on the nose, which transforms into a woody indulgence on the palate..."
