Cane Island Single Estate Nicaragua 12 years 43°: Description and customer reviews

This Cane Island bottled rum was column distilled in Nicaragua by a "secret" distillery...

Aged in the tropical climate of Central America, in ex-bourbon American oak barrels, for a full 12 years.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose immediately reveals a rather interesting concentration. We like the waxed wood with a light solvent pass that opens up to fermented fruit. These fruits are matched by the toasted wood, which gives off aromas of toasted coconut and nougatine, for a lively, promising balance.

Aeration simply adds fullness and a little more power, but the profile remains straight. American oak still reigns supreme, with good clarity and intensity.

Tasty and intense on the palate, straight to the point, with a powerful heart of American oak. The wood is palpable and present, with an ever-so-slightly resinous fiber. Toasted coconut and orange peel complement each other very well, and an unexpected hint of mint refreshes the finish.

The finish prolongs the pleasure and continues to release the aromas of this generous oak.

"An ode to the American oak..."
