Chamarel - Liqueur Café 35°: Description and customer reviews

Produced by the Chamarel distillery in Mauritius, this liqueur is a meticulous blend of rum made from pure estate cane juice and unroasted coffee, to preserve the freshness of its aromas.
To achieve a harmonious blend, the coffee is slowly macerated in the rum.

Chamarel coffee liqueur is best enjoyed chilled. It can also be used in cocktails.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose of this liqueur is of course dominated by coffee, with a roasted, powdery quality. But let's not stop there: the combination with rhum pur jus has enabled us to develop a floral profile that is rather thick and heady. There's also a hint of crushed red fruit. The roasting of the coffee also develops aromas of roasted and caramelized nuts.
When the glass is shaken, the cane comes to the fore. All the aforementioned aromas are still present, but they are "capped" by the coffee. The suppleness and toastiness are reminiscent of toasted bread.

The first taste is sweet, thick and tangy. Then, once we get to the heart of the matter, we have a dark coffee with cane sugar. The thickness in the mouth evokes something creamy, like a tiramisu.

The finish confirms this pastry-like impression, reminiscent more of a cookie dipped in coffee than a steaming cup.

"In order to maintain the balance, I would say that this liqueur should be drunk slightly chilled but not iced..."
