Compagnie des Indes Trinidad 13 ans TDL comes from the great distillery Trinidad Distillers Limited. This distillery is notably responsible for Angostura rum and the essential bitters of the same name. For its collection of unique casks, the Company has chosen this rather rare molasses rum. Distilled in column in February 2005, it was bottled in July 2018. This 13-year-old cuvée was bottled in 385 units. As is customary with La Compagnie des Indes single casks, no coloring, sweetening or cold filtration was carried out.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose opens with a little fruit paste with mineral or copper accents. One thinks of guava jam or quince paste, with that typical light bitterness. Then it's off to Normandy, to an orchard where fallen apples and pears begin to oxidize.
With air, the rum gains superb fullness, thanks to an elegant, generous woodiness. It embraces all the fruity and coppery notes to give them greed and richness. The sweet spices spread and scatter on all sides, giving the rum an inspiring foundation and concentration.
The palate is joyously and gently fruity, with a nice handful of slightly acidic fruit pastes. The soft, delicate touch makes it easy to appreciate this colorful whole, which takes a slightly catchier turn in the mid-palate. Indeed, a light touch of tar compliments the guava jam, introducing a nice complexity.
The finish then gives way to a beautiful, full-bodied and elegant woodiness, as well as sweet spice notes that lead us to a pastry-like persistence.
