Conde De Cuba 11 Años 38°: Description and customer reviews

Conde De Cuba 11 Años is a Cuban rum from Destileria Sevilla. This estate is both a sugar mill and a distillery. The entire process is carried out on site, from cane cultivation to bottling.

The cane honey used to make this rum comes from a native sugar cane called Medialuna. Column distillation produces a light rum and a full-bodied aguardiente. The two distillates are blended in the purest Cuban tradition, then aged in casks for at least 11 years.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is sweet and lemony, with hints of heavily toasted oak, just enough to give a little vigor to a light, tart fruit syrup. Orange peel soon supplants the lemon, for an even sweeter, oilier aspect.

The aeration emphasizes the confectionery aspect, and one is now frankly reminded of cane sugar syrup. A few mirabelle plums, peaches and fairly pale apricots add color to the whole, which is resolutely light but nonetheless pleasant.

The palate is very smooth and roundly spicy, with vanilla and coconut milk on the oak. Its surface is well toasted, even roasted, which brings a little bite to the mid-palate, re-launching the spices on a slightly powdery texture.

The finish is light and gently spicy, with a little bitterness of orange zest that lingers into the long finish.

"A smooth, delicate rum that punctuates the tasting with citrus notes..."
