El Pasador de Oro XO 40°: Description and customer reviews

El Pasador de Oro XO is a rum from various Guatemalan distilleries.

After an initial long aging period of 6 to 15 years in various types of casks, the rum is then imported from Guatemala to the Charente region in the cellars of the French company Les Bienheureux. There, it is matured in cognac casks for around 6 months before being bottled in a superb decanter. This makes El Pasador de Oro XO a perfect gift for a lover of traditional Spanish ron.

We are 2 to have wanted to write our impressions concerning the tasting of this "ron" which makes much speak about him:

Nico's tasting notes

This rum's nose first reveals a rich, toasty, spicy woodiness. It needs a little aeration to open up. The palette is then enriched by sweet spices, dark chocolate, dried and exotic fruits. Although classic, the whole is quite deep and complex. It then develops a certain vegetal freshness, with hints of cane, balanced by notes of caramel and roasting.

The palate is very soft, caramelized, slightly spicy, balanced and easy.

The finish is sweet and melting, fading pleasantly.

Laurent's tasting notes

Its color is amber.

On the nose, a caramelized woodiness is striking. After a moment, roasted and dried fruit notes appear, soon joined by increasingly present citrus aromas. A ron that offers more than the usual caramel and vanilla.

On the palate, the caramelized woodiness is there again. The sugar is under control and the palate profile is fairly straightforward.

The finish is sweet and slightly woody.

  7. Free

El Pasador de Oro is an excellent choice for those wishing to enter the world of rum through the ron door, without falling into the eternal Diplo or Don PaPa, which are far too syrupy and tampered with. The nose is very woody and spicy, almost smelling of tobacco, and the palate is round and greedy, with notes of caramel, vanilla and dried fruit. In short, an excellent introduction for novices and the not-so-new alike.

  • The same rum, but a few years older, and with more power...
  • A great Guatemalan name, with a gentle touch...
  • Another South American rum, this time Peruvian, for those with a sweet tooth...
