Emperor Finition Sherry is a blend of pure cane juice rums and molasses rums, aged in American oak barrels that have previously contained bourbon, then matured in barrels that have previously aged sherry.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose of this rum is marked by red fruit, cherry in particular. Other fresh fruits join in: apple, white grape juice and pear juice. Add banana and you have a truly multivitamin juice. There's also a candy-like quality, reminiscent of strawberry chewing gum and the melt-in-your-mouth pearls of a candy necklace.
But it's the red fruits that dominate, as in a sweet rosé wine or grenadine syrup. As in the first nose, these red fruits share the limelight with confectionery. The aromas now bring back sweet memories of a little bag of candy at playtime.
The palate is tangy and sweet, before moving on to something more full-bodied. Molasses and coffee surround a ripe banana, before the rum takes a spicy turn. Molasses returns to the charge in the form of licorice and now occupies all the senses. The combination of confectionery and licorice now makes these little licorice tubes filled with sweet, colorful paste stand out quite clearly.
The finish will not deviate from this trajectory so frankly started, we'll stay on the licorice candy.
