Malecon Rare Proof 13 ans 50,5° : Description and customer reviews

Malecon Rare Proof 13 ans is a molasses rum from Panama, distilled in 2006 in a continuous column. The brand's creator, Marco Savio, enlisted the services of Cuban maestro ronero Francisco Fernandez, to assemble a small series of casks. These had the particularity of containing particularly concentrated rums, distilled more slowly than usual.

The term Rare Proof is also important for this cuvée. In fact, it is rare to find traditional Latin rums with such a high degree of bottling.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, we discover a pleasant caramel, with something tropical and exotic, a little moist and suave. It is adorned with a vegetal, rather oily envelope, like a cigar leaf. The sweet spices are perfectly at home in this brown, gourmand atmosphere.

Aeration emphasizes roasting, with aromas of sweet coffee, toasted and caramelized nuts. A more herbal, aromatic character sparkles at the heart of the rum, giving it a solid backbone.

The palate is warm and rather sweet, with a rum that settles quietly on the taste buds. It's accompanied by a good whiff of sweet spices, notably languorous vanilla, dark and bold. The coffee, and more broadly the roast, are well present, but also express themselves with a certain roundness.

The finish is gently caramelized, and as on the nose, extended by a touch of more concentrated aromas, and even a hint of salt.

"A gourmand, roasted rum, discreetly supported by slightly fuller-bodied aromas..."
