Mombacho 12 years Sauternes Finish 40° : Description and customer reviews

Mombacho 12 ans Sauternes Finish is named after one of Nicaragua's most famous volcanoes. Distilled in 2003, it was bottled in 2015 after being finished in casks containing Sauternes wine. This maturation gives this column-distilled molasses rum gourmand aromas that enhance its light character.

It is also a single cask bearing the n°44.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is divided between roasted aromas (toasted oak, coffee...) and roundly fruity, spicy notes. The former take over for a while, giving way to scents of toasted, caramelized nuts.

With aeration, the toasty notes gradually dissipate, giving way to toasted bread, followed by a slightly greedier woodiness. Eventually, roasting takes over, with blackened nuts and steaming coffee beans.

The palate is very fluid and suave, focusing above all on touch. As with a vodka, the aromas give way to sensations and texture, which here are completely velvety. Later on, a hint of roast glides across the palate, along with a few hints of bitter flowers.

The finish is light and gently spicy, with a hint of vanilla from the roasting.

" A rum that focuses above all on the mouthfeel, with a smoothness that suffers no hindrance... "
