The vanilla used as a base for this Oksen rhum macéré artisanal comes exclusively from Madagascan agricultural cooperatives selected for the quality of their products, but also on the basis of criteria of environmental preservation and respect for farmers. The rum is agricultural rum from Martinique. At the end of the maceration process, a touch of cane sugar is added, and cold filtration is carried out.
Oksen Vanilla Macerated Rum was awarded the Silver Medal at the 2014 Madrid International Tasting Competition.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose of this macerated rum opens (oh surprise) with vanilla, but also with fresh cane. We're reminded of the white rhum agricole that was originally used. The vanilla is natural, with the taste of the ripe, fat pod.
Over time, a few sweet spices appear, with cinnamon providing support. The white rum is still there, with cane and citrus. There's also a hint of spice and candied fruit.
On the palate, the white rum comes to the fore. It is honeyed and a little spicy, like a rum that has spent a short time in cask. White pepper dominates the spiciness. Vanilla is more discreet on the palate than on the nose, blending into the background.
The white pepper remains present throughout, and the white rum comes through one last time with the lime.
