The Real McCoy Virgin Oak 46°: Description and customer reviews

The Real McCoy Virgin Oak is a molasses rum from Barbados. Distilled at Foursquare, it is a variation on the brand's famous 12-Year-Old. It is a blend of 12-year-old rums aged in bourbon barrels, and 10-year-old rums matured in new American oak barrels.

This bottling is limited to 3,000 copies.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is dominated by a wave of toasty woodiness, generous like a good armful of cereal and toasted nuts. At the heart of the oak, we glimpse a rum tinged with yellow fruits and sprinkled with sweet spices. After a few moments, these notes take over to form a gourmet syrup.

With aeration, vanilla and toasted coconut float lightly over the glass, at the heart of which lies a now well-rounded, softly fruity rum, supported by balanced American oak.

On the palate, the oak is enveloped in toasty, caramelized notes, while the tannins are still quite green and fresh. The result is a taut, slightly astringent texture that firmly imprints the rum on the palate. Once on the palate, orange peel releases its fragrance, enhanced by sweet spices and nuts.

The finish is typically influenced by well-toasted American oak, with a vanilla-like length.

"The toasty, woody and spicy aromas of the new oak barrel guide and accompany the tasting from start to finish..."
