Worthy Park Quatre Vins 2013 52° : Description and customer reviews

Worthy Park Quatre Vins 2013 is edition no. 8 of the Cask Selection series, in collaboration with 1423 World Class Spirits. The Saint Catherine distillery has teamed up with the Danish bottlers of the SBS range for this original double maturation.

This Jamaican rum is a Single Estate molasses rum. This means that all the molasses used comes from cane grown exclusively on the Worthy Park estate, which still has its own sugar mill. Distillation takes place in 100% Forsyths copper pot stills.

The rum was first aged in ex-bourbon casks for 4 years. It was then transported to Denmark, where it was placed in 4 different types of cask. These casks all contained sweet white wines, giving the rum a certain roundness. This additional 2-year maturation was carried out in old Monbazillac, Sauternes, Moscatel and Jurançon barrels.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is very fruity, in a purely Jamaican style, full-bodied but very seductive. This rum could be a kind of exotic whisky, with typical fruits such as banana, very ripe apple and pear. There's also an almost malty roundness, comfortable and velvety.

Aeration brings out a vinous side, intoxicating our already funky profile. We discover ripe white grapes, ready to ferment, and a hint of sulfur that seems to come from the oak barrel. The latter takes us back to those traditional English rums used in the British Navy, with their gunpowder quality.

The palate starts with a touch of red-fruit acidity. Blackcurrant and blueberry come to mind, followed by strawberry and raspberry. White oak signals the return of the familiar Jamaican rum. After a wave of coconut milk and vanilla, we return to the cereal roundness that seduced us on the nose, followed by ripe, dried fruit, such as banana, which comes in just these two forms.

The finish is greedy, creamy and pastry-like. It is enhanced by hints of stone and copper.

"A fine interpretation of Worthy Park, with vinous notes that bring character and extra indulgence in turn..."
