Glenfarclas, a single malt from Speyside, offers a quality entry-level product.
This 10yo is, it should be noted, under the influence of the distillery's trademark sherry casks.
Our tasting note from Thomas
The nose suggests honey, which mingles with baked apples. This duo is then modified by orange jam, malt and a touch of fresh herbs.
Aeration brings out a hint of apricot jam, almonds, spices (white pepper) and leather. This round, soothing start doesn't play on complexity, but on a very solid aromatic combination.
The palate is consistent with jams (oranges, apricots), fruit (stewed apples) and dried fruit (almonds, walnuts). This is followed by honey and mild spices (nutmeg, white pepper). This Glenfarclas delivers a pastry experience without ever becoming too rich or nauseating.
The finish is still round, with a gourmet structure of orange jam, honey, almonds and malt. Apricot, black tea and walnut flavors remain on the palate.
" A gourmet whisky that remains consistent from start to finish...".
