Japan
Japan, internationally renowned for its top-quality whiskies, is also a rum producer.
Japanese rum is produced on the small tropical islands to the south of the country. This is the only region in Japan where sugarcane can grow. Most Japanese rum is produced on the islands of Okinawa, Ogasawara, Minami Daito and Lejima.
Japanese rum is made from molasses, and distilled in traditional iron stills.
The main Japanese rums are Cor Cor Rum, Kikusui Rum, Nine Leaves and Ogasawara Rum. Read less
