Japan
Japan, internationally renowned for its high quality whiskies, is also a rum producer.
Japanese rum is produced in the small tropical islands in the south of the country. This is the only region in Japan where sugar cane can be grown. The islands of Okinawa, Ogasawara, Minami Daito and Lejima produce the majority of Japanese rum.
Japanese rum is made from molasses, and is distilled in traditional iron stills.
The main Japanese rums are Cor Cor Rum, Kikusui Rum, Nine Leaves and Ogasawara Rum. Read less
