Despite being a Central American country, Belize blends well with the Caribbean mentality. This geographical and ideological connection has allowed rum to become a part of the country's culture.
Belizean rum is not an ancient story. The main production of rum began in the 1950s. The sugar cane that could be found in abundance on the island gave landowners the idea to start producing rum. They each worked on their own recipes in order to market them.
The rum industry in Belize today is dominated by Travellers Liquor. The second largest player in the rum industry is the Cuello distillery.
