Australia
The rum industry in Australia developed at the end of the 19th century, with the appearance of the first distilleries. Today, the leader in Australia is the Bundaberg brand, which alone accounts for 75% of the country's market and exports just 4% of its production.
The sugar cane used to produce Australian rum comes from Queensland, and as required by the "Australian Rum" appellation, Australian rum must be aged for at least 2 years.
The main Australian rum brands are Bundaberg, Beenleigh, Holey Dollar, Irridium and Island Rum (which has the particularity of being aged in Single Malt Whisky casks, in a distillery located in Tasmania). Read less
