Diplomatico Single Vintage 2008 is a worthy replacement for the 2007 vintage.
Distilled, aged and then assembled in Venezuela, this vintage rum is presented in an elegant carafe.
The blend is made up of different rums aged at least 12 years. Their aging was done in bourbon and whiskey barrels.
Subsequently, the whole benefited from an additional year of maturation in oloroso sherry barrels.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is immediately divided between the depth of very brown notes on one side, such as coffee, toasted nuts, molasses, and on the other side lighter, fruity and tangy notes. This creates a gourmet and pastry harmony that we can't wait to see evolve.
With time and aeration, it is the comfortably gourmand side that takes over, and which offers a sort of soft pillow made of molasses syrup and spices with citrus zest and coffee.
The palate is round and caramelized, with a surprising but well-felt hint of smoke. It seems to come from a heavily toasted oak barrel, from which flavors of coffee and licorice typical of sugar cane molasses are expressed. The citrus zests quickly run along the tongue, bringing some spices (clove) in their wake, but it is the most roasted notes that dominate.
The finish details some bursts of toasted and caramelized nuts, which soon mingle with coffee grounds.
“A very typical profile of the Venezuelan house, with that little extra mastery that makes it quintessential…”
Lionel Bovetto
A reputation to defend, more aromatic than the 2005 and 2007. A very lively attack, much more than the 2004, and a very long finish. It balances out as you empty the bottle reaching its peak in the last third.
