Philippines
The Philippines is one of the ten largest sugarcane producers in the world. The country's tropical climate and volcanic soil allow it to produce complex and sweet cane.
It was not until the end of the 18th century that the Philippines began distilling rum. Under American domination, rum production developed for several years, but was in danger of coming to a complete halt during prohibition.
Today, the country has several distilleries producing rums that were initially local (rum is indeed a very popular drink in the Philippines) but which are now exported all over the world: for example, Tanduay is the world's second largest rum producer in volume!
The main Philippine rums are the famous Don Papa, Tanduay and Boracay Rum (both produced in the Tanduay distillery), Emperador whose distillery offers several local rums, Ginebra and Tondeña both produced by the Tondeña distillery, and the Limtuaco distillery known for more than 160 years and which offers a wide range of spirits including Palawan Blanco Rum, Old Captain Superior Rum and Inferno Flaming Rum...
