Isautier Louis & Charles Rhum Vieux 45°: Description and customer reviews

Isautier Louis & Charles is a tribute to the two Isautier brothers who founded the distillery of the same name. After arriving on Reunion Island in 1832, they built the largest distillery of its time in 1845. Their know-how has endured to this day. This cuvée is a blend of different agricultural rums and traditional molasses rums aged from 14 to 22 years.

This blend reflects the expertise of Isautier, which is still one of the only distilleries in the world to work with both agricultural and industrial rums.

Nico's tasting notes

The friendly nose of nuts that greets us is most inviting. It's with a certain simplicity that we discover this rum, and with the surprise of discovering a good proportion of rhum agricole in the blend.

The aeration definitely clears the landscape, and the cane expresses all its fruit, whether just ripe, exotic or even dried. Among them are a handful of bouncy citrus fruits that shake off their white pepper dust.

The palate is as pleasant and tasty as one could imagine, with a slightly oxidized wine and nut character that brings it closer to an aperitif. The sugar cane is rather mature, inhabited by old stone fruits and some oak tannins. Their green, fresh character bridges the gap with this rum's more "molassesy" side.

The finish is roasted and mildly spicy, returning to something more classic but still very tasty.

"A rich, well-crafted blend, full of flavour..."
