Mandatario Ron XO is a Peruvian rum made from molasses and sugarcane honey.
After partial fermentation, distillation takes place in a Charentais repasse alembic, which is unique in South America.
The rum is then aged in Lima in cognac casks for between 6 and 24 years (on average 12 years - 10% of the blend is 24 years old).
Before bottling, the wine is finished in Grand Marnier barrels.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is light and spicy, with splashes of orange zest and a veil of vanilla. The rum is quite sweet, like barley sugar or a slightly tart candy. A drop of caramel spreads out with a little rest.
Aeration confirms the fruity side, and citrus peel takes pride of place, especially now that it's well candied. A few tangy exotic fruits try to make their presence felt, with banana, pineapple and passion fruit making a few appearances.
On the palate, the rum is sweet and fruity, like a fragrant cane sugar syrup. The spices quickly enhance all this, swarming and spreading across the palate, aided by a slightly ethereal alcohol.
The finish is greedy, leaving a little more room for a soft, sweet woodiness, followed by the bitterness of orange peel.
