Capucana

The distillery was founded in 1886 by Christiano Matthiessen , an abolitionist engineer who emigrated to Brazil from Denmark to build roads. Having fallen in love with the country, Christiano quickly decided to buy property with the help of Pudente Morais, the President of Brazil at the time.
After starting by making furniture from exotic wood and then coffee, he eventually produced cane sugar, and then, little by little, cachaça , from 1900 onwards.
All the wood used to manufacture the brand's bottle caps and other promotional items is PEFC-certified, the world's leading association for sustainable forestry.
The name Capucana refers to the two main elements that make up the brand's DNA: Capu – House – and Cana – the cane. Read less
