3S 2019 Yanagita Mizunara is a shochu from the Yanagita distillery, Miyakonojo's oldest. One of its special features is that it is aged in Mizunara oak casks from Hokkaido (quercus crispula variety).
This shochu is bottled by 3S - Super Shochu Spirits.
Here, it's a shochu made from barley grown around Kyushu, of the "Nijo Omugi" variety. The moromi (fermented wort) is brewed at low temperature, then distilled under pressure.
Mizunara oak gives shochu a different taste from French or American oak. This type of maturation is highly prized by distillate enthusiasts around the world.
