Miyagikyo Single Malt 45°: Description and customer reviews

This whisky is THE single malt produced by the Miyagikyo distillery.

This Nikka distillery is located in the Miyagi Valley, north of Honshu (Japan's main island).

This is a blend of whiskies of different ages.

Tasting notes from Thomas

The nose seems coherent and well-constructed. The barley feeds on a waxy note but also floral touches (honeysuckle, lily). We quickly move on to a slice of apple and a little coconut powder. Coriander and pomelo are also present.

Theaeration continues its balanced exploration with a hint of graphite, a little chalk and a touch of green pepper softened by a piece of pineapple. Lemon then takes off.

The palate is well rounded and not overdone. Lemon and chalk come together with white flowers (the same as on the nose) and dried fruit (dried walnuts). The second part of the palate gains a few elements like green pepper and mint leaf, bringing a fresh breeze.

The finish brings us closer to plant freshness, with a touch of walnut, coconut and tart apple. A minty, slightly citric note lingers on the palate, complemented by wax, graphite and pineapple.

" A Japanese whisky that proves it's possible to be well-balanced with a significant bias... "
