This brut de fût bottled edition demonstrates the distinctive personality of Amrut single malt Indian whisky.
It is aged in bourbon casks. It is not chill-filtered.
Our tasting note from Thomas
The nose is ample and already takes us on a journey. We start with cooked fruits: peach, mango, banana. In a few seconds, we move on to coconut milk, candied oranges, chocolate-flavored cereals and sandalwood. The opening is powerful, and it's clear that time will pay off.
Aeration declines its fruity character, while gaining poppy and floral notes (pansies, lilies). Olfactory associations then evolve with toasted bread and praline.
Dilution doesn't greatly change the profile, but it does reinforce the fruit and praline. In addition, the nose is fresher (mint) and creamier.
The palate is rich and very oily. We find the fruit listed on the nose with a lovely orange and lemon cream. We quickly move on to poppy, sandalwood and spices (pepper, nutmeg, curry). Finally, hazelnut chocolate, After Eight, toasted bread and acacia bring about a beautiful turnaround.
Dilution makes it much easier to enjoy. The same oily sensation is retained. Citrus fruits are more present in the second half of the mouth, accompanied by lively spices (red curry, black pepper).
The finish is powerful, still carried by juicy fruit, dry cereals and rather pronounced spices. Candied lemons, roasted hazelnuts and peanuts remain, accompanied by sweet spices. The addition of water lessens the fruity flavors, but the finish retains a lovely combination of cream, graphite, warm spices (paprika, red curry, black pepper) and roasted dried fruit.
