Heavy Vapours is a limited edition peated whisky from Ardbeg, presented on Ardbeg Day, June 3, 2023.
This "special" version of Ardbeg whisky is the result of removing the "purifier" from the still.
This element, a small copper pot located between the still's "swan neck" and the condenser, is usually responsible for the balance and aroma of Ardbeg whisky. Its role is to return the heavier vapors to the still. This phenomenon, known as "reflux", creates a generally balanced whisky. Without this purifier, Ardbeg whisky's aromatic profile changes.
