Big Peat is a blend of single malts from all theIslay distilleries.
Peat means "peat": this blended malt is for lovers of very peaty whiskies!
Not cold-filtered.
Tasting notes from Thomas
The nose smells of Islay. In a medicinal atmosphere, borrowing from antiseptic and camphor balm, we discover a little licorice, breadcrumbs and vanilla-flavored white fruits. After a few moments, smoked almonds make a breakthrough. Then, sea spray becomes increasingly present, as does candied lemon. This is a peaty entry that doesn't descend into excessive simplicity.
The texture is oily on the palate. The peat, as medicinal as ever and slightly smoky (rubber, tar), betrays its island origins. Alongside it, sandwich bread, dark chocolate and almonds add deliciousness. Lemon and fresh fruit are then combined with chocolate and spices (cinnamon, cloves). Sporadic aromatic herbs are also present.
The finish is well supported by the peat, as medicinal as ever, at times tending towards tar. Lemon, chocolate and spices (led by cinnamon) are then prominent, adding a slight bitterness to the finish.
