Montebello R1963 Blended Blanc 59° is an exceptional 100% Montebello vintage. This ideal strength white rum bears the IG Guadeloupe mention, which certifies its origin from the butterfly island. This is a blend of two flagship vintages from the house, and therefore two different varieties of cane. Indeed, it is a subtle balance between the Bolokos brut column cuvée (Canne rouge R579) and the Winch plot cuvée (Canne Blanche R570).
These two rums were blended, then brewed and rested for 7 months, to achieve a beautiful harmony. Only 787 of these "cannonball" bottles were ever bottled.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is initially quite light and ethereal, the rum needs to breathe a little before revealing itself completely. A character of fresh, frank and dry cane then unfolds, with pretty marine notes.
Aeration releases a cloud of citrus zests, both bitter and tangy, which perfume and intensify the cane juice. The peppery bagasse, still full of sugar, nourishes itself with all these aromas.
The palate is a concentrate of sweet and ripe cane juice, which coats the palate and sticks to every corner. If the nose showed a drier and full-bodied character, this palate puts the power and intensity on the side of gourmandise. The plant is very lively, full of chlorophyll and fruit juices, and the rum definitely sticks to the taste buds.
The finish returns to something drier and pepperier, with a touch of sweet pepper.
“A coating and concentrated rum that never leaves the palate…”
