Bows Venidor is a molasses rum distilled in a hybrid copper still and aged in Montauban at Benoît Garcia's small distillery.
This is a single cask (ex-single varietal white wine).
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is rich with long-fermented molasses, with earthy accents of mushroom and undergrowth. A small olive shimmers in the middle, coated with a dollop of caramel. Yet this rusticity is restrained and elegant, and a pretty compote of exotic fruits manages to find its way in a rather bright way.
With aeration, we continue to explore the meanders of this molasses treated as a grand aroma. We can go further than olives and mushrooms, while remaining in a savory register, evoking peppery charcuterie coated with resinous aromatics.
The palate is soft, oily and very vegetal in the first moments. A resinous aroma seems to have sweated its medicinal sap, just before a slightly astringent, tannic sensation takes hold of the taste buds. We now return to the molasses core, with licorice, olives and, why not, anchovies.
The finish is very long, picking up coffee, liquorice and very ripe fruit.
"A rum typical of the grand arôme de métropole style, with well-developed fermentation notes and a very nice mouthfeel..."
