Centenario 25 40°: Description and customer reviews

Prestigious rum from Costa Rica, a small Central American country renowned for its exuberant nature, Centenario 25 is a feast for the senses.
This vintage cuvée is distilled from molasses and cane honey, then aged for 25 years using the solera technique. American oak barrels that once contained bourbon, as well as sherry casks, were successively used for the rum's slow maturation.

With its gourmand character, Centenario 25 is ideal as a digestive.

Laurent's tasting notes

Its color is between bronze and caramel.

On the nose, this is a ron. Its profile is divided between caramel, vanilla and a welcome woodiness. Although the whole is based on gourmet aromas, it doesn't give the impression of being sweet.

On the palate, the aromas from the nose are well-balanced, with a soft attack. This sweetness is accentuated the longer you hold it in the mouth.

The finish is still on that sweet note. It is quite long on caramel and vanilla once again.

  3. Martine Lebrisse

Powerful, strong and good. The taste is not masked by the strength.

  4. Catherine WINTZ

    already syrupy on the palate.

    Dress: Mahogany

Nose: Centenario 25 has a very sweet, gourmand nose. Moderately intense, the nose is dominated by notes of vanilla and caramel. Woody aromas quickly follow.

Palate: Centenario 25 ans is very smooth. This is a sweet rum. You could compare it to a Sauternes wine. It's even sweeter than Ophtimus 25. It's the kind of rum that's dangerous for the consumer because it drinks like syrup.
On the palate, the aromas are caramel and vanilla. The woodiness of the nose is quite erased on the palate.

Finish: Short. The caramel is sweet and lingers on the palate.

This is a very gourmet rum. I think it would go well with a fruity pastry. An apple tart, for example. It's very smooth. It will please everyone. It may be criticized for its persistence on the palate and low complexity.

    3,5-4/5

I tasted it at a friend's house and, as I'm not much of a rum person, I really liked it and had one for myself. It's on a budget but I only take it out for special occasions.

I didn't think I'd like this rum (or rather ron, as it's Hispanic in style). I was wrong, it's not too sweet and makes a perfect dessert/digestif. Otherwise great service, thanks rhumattitude ;)

If you like it, we recommend :

  • Another ron, but with roasted notes on the nose...
  • A very prolonged ageing process that emphasizes the toasty woodiness...
