Chartreuse Verte 55° - 35 cl : Description and customer reviews

A very popular French liqueur, Chartreuse Verte is made at the Aiguenoire distillery in Entre-deux-Guiers, Isère.

It takes several weeks to develop. It begins with distillation, maceration, extraction and cold infusion of 130 plants. It is then matured in oak casks before bottling.

The original recipe dates back to 1605. It was at this time that Duke François-Annibal d'Estrées handed over a document to the Carthusian monks in Paris, which included a list of plants and instructions for making an Elixir of "long life". But it wasn't until 1840 that liqueurs were marketed under the name Chartreuse.

It can be enjoyed chilled, on the rocks or in cocktails.
