Produced by the cellar master, Dillon Rhum Vieux XO Club 12 ans is aged in small oak barrels in the tropical climate of Martinique.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, all the DNA of Martinique's rhum agricole is there. Under a patina of waxed wood, the cane is mellow and fruity. The velvety mango and fragrance of fig and dried apricot are classy golden hues. The woodiness is grainy, gourmand, like a paste of roasted, peppery nuts.
Aeration spreads and stretches the rum. It gains in sweetness what it loses in concentration. A new, fresher range of fruits appears, with strawberry and peach. The cane also takes on a certain freshness, all the more so as it is accompanied by chlorophyll-filled herbs.
The palate is smooth and balanced. Initially, it concentrates on a still-fresh woodiness, with a well-melted yet tannic fiber. This oak releases a peppery cane juice, impregnated with wax and autumn honey. The nuts form a gourmet paste that one would have kept in a tobacco jar.
The finish is very tropical and humid, with past exotic fruits and a touch of black tea.
" A fine summary of Martinique's style, very gentle, with exceptional value for money given its age... "
