Don Papa Masskara is an infused rum made from molasses grown on Negros Island in the Philippines.
Once the rum has been produced, it is blended with an infusion distilled like gin. The infused ingredients are local: calamansi (a type of lime), the small siling labuyo pepper and honey from Mount Kanla-on.
This cuvée pays tribute to a Philippine festival of the same name, held annually since 1980 on the island of Negros. The event is nicknamed the "Festival of Smiles".
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, we discover a well-rounded liqueur, full of orange peel and pulp, but also generously enhanced with vanilla. A little cherry bubblegum develops over time, followed by a hint of herbal spice.
On the palate, we find our orange liqueur, spiced up with a spicy edge that makes the taste buds sparkle, but quickly calms down. This is followed by tangy flavors and a very round, sweet sensation, reminiscent of lemon sweets.
