El Dorado Rare Collection Albion 2004 60.1°: Description and customer reviews

This El Dorado Rare Collection Albion was distilled in 2004 at the Diamond distillery, in the Savalle column still (continuous distillation).

Aged for 14 years in a tropical climate, it was bottled on site in 2018 without reduction ("cask strength").

The "AN" mark ("A" for Albion) on the bottle refers to the distillation style used at the Albion distillery, which closed in 1968. The Savalle column was adjusted to obtain this mythical style...

This is a very limited edition.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, this is a well-caramelized, strongly toasted profile, with coffee and lots of roasting. In the sticky pot of caramel, we swirl an armful of nuts like walnut, fat hazelnut and pecan. Sprinkle with caraway seeds, zan, smoked oak dust and you've got a big, sticky Demerara.

The sweetness comes with aeration. The rum rids itself of its most burnt notes and now concentrates on the generosity of caramel and nuts. Once the bark is broken, the thick liquid flows out, rich from the time spent between the wood fibers. This is pure English style at its best, with soft wood, dried banana, tobacco, vanilla and caramel, all in concentration.

On the palate, the pleasure of these concentrated and terribly enveloping Demerara is immediately apparent. The palate immediately succumbs to this overdose of comfortable, gourmet flavors, which above all have the talent of being neither superficial nor too heavy. The 60% alcohol content is totally unsuspected, with coconut, tobacco and vanilla coating the entire palate with warmth and sensuality. One imagines a mellow oak, like a brioche whose thick fiber has been torn, and which contains aromas of banana, dried apricots and vanilla cream.

The finish continues with pure American oak, all coconut milk, vanilla and blond tobacco.

"What a pleasure to rediscover this gourmet Demerara profile, and above all to know that this style is not dead..."
