Ferroni Amber 18 months with 40° case

The18-month amber designed by Guillaume Ferroni is a clever blend of rums from different origins: Mauritius (2 pure cane juice rums and a traditional rum), Trinidad (a traditional rum) and Guyana (also a molasses rum).
Some of these rums have been aged in their respective distilleries. However, as others are white rums, for the sake of transparency, we consider that the count is at 0 when the eaux-de-vie arrive in Marseille.

Aged in cognac casks for 1 full year, the blend is then matured for 6 months in a Rasteau cask (Vin Doux Naturel from the Rhône Valley). It is during this final stage that the blend acquires its pinkish color.
All this takes place in the cellars of Marseille, where this amber rum is aged for 18 months.

Laurent's tasting notes

Its color is pale amber with a pinkish tinge.

On the nose, the first thing that strikes you is the soft, pleasant wood. Orange and caramel quickly follow. This is a gourmet profile that doesn't necessarily give the impression that the rum will be sweet. This is even amplified by a candy side (with a Malabar tendency) and a light almond note.

On the palate, it's confirmed: it's not sweet, and that's good! There's the pleasant woodiness of the nose, as well as the candied cherry fruit of the Rasteau finish. You might think that its "low" 40° would make it a rum that lacks a little pizzazz, but that's not the case: it's very well dosed.

The finish is long, with the same delicate woodiness and a touch of almond. It's also slightly peppery, with a hint of gunpowder. The whole is dry.
