Gin Mare is a premium gin with a distinctive Mediterranean spirit. The botanicals used include Italian basil, Greek rosemary, Turkish thyme and, above all, Spanish Arbequina olives. The Arbequina variety is the largest in Catalonia.
Other ingredients include juniper berries, coriander, cardamom and citrus fruits (Seville orange, Valencia bitter orange and Lleida lemon).
Tasting notes from Thomas
The nose suggests a sunny ambience. Juniper is present, but not overpowering. Around it, aromatic herbs emerge: rosemary, basil and thyme. There are also hints of olive in the form of a supple oil. A greasy impression emerges from this rather fresh nose. After a few minutes, bergamot, lavender and a hint of orgeat put the herbaceous notes into perspective.
The texture, on the palate, is quite fluid and takes us to the Mediterranean rim. The aromatic herbs are lively and explosive (rosemary, basil, thyme, sage), this time with flowers (lavender, cornflower, primrose) and citrus (candied orange). Olives are always present, enhanced by white pepper, ginger and a hint of nutmeg.
The finish is supple, taking up the vegetation-flower-citrus alliance. A slight bitterness emerges at this point (citrus zest, grape seeds). The vegetal aspect then gets a second wind: cut grass and aromatic herbs.
