Glendronach 21 ans Parliament 48°: Description and customer reviews

This Glendronach single malt was aged in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks for 21 years in the distillery's own cellars.

No cold filtration for this very old whisky, to preserve all its aromas.

Tasting notes from Thomas

The nose begins with Glendronach's characteristic style, with great density. We naturally perceive tanned leather, black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry), red fruits (raspberry cream, cranberries). This is followed by balsamic vinegar, walnut tending towards rancio, dark chocolate and lacquered wood. In addition to the aromatic diversity, it's worth noting that this is not a whisky driven by sugar.

Aeration tends to melt the aromas, adding new scents here and there. A touch of violet, pine honey, a few herbs (verbena, rosemary), menthol and olive bread promise a lovely tasting experience. If we're patient, mocha, chocolate and sweet spices (cinnamon, nutmeg) make a noticeable arrival.
A slight dilution brings in lots of oranges and a few dried apricots.

The palate is perfectly calibrated. Indeed, there's a calmness of expression without any lack of personality. Aromatically, the leather is more subdued, revealing liquid honey, precious woods, mocha and chocolate, as well as a beautiful fruity palette. These range from red and black fruits (blackberry, blueberry, crushed raspberry) to dried fruits (dates, walnut fat). There's even a touch of passion fruit in the middle of this rather sweet palate.
Dilution again brings oranges and more pronounced roasting. Wood is also more present.

The finish is narrower but still rich. Red and black fruit jams are present. At the same time, mentholated freshness, spices (white pepper, cinnamon) and precious wood provide the necessary contrast. All in all, however, the wine remains well-coated.

" A first-rate sherry caskwhisky interms of its finesse and complexity..."
