Grander Rhum Single Barrel 54°: Description and customer reviews

Grander Rhum Single Barrel is a molasses rum from Panama aged for at least 8 years in an ex-bourbon barrel. This unique cask has been bottled brut de fût, i.e. without any reduction in alcohol content.

Panama rums are part of the Latin tradition. They are light rums, so ageing is essential.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, a very light rum drapes itself in a thin film of caramel, like a toffee apple. The nose is reminiscent of melting cane sugar syrup, with notes of tart fruit, flowers and vanilla.

Aeration lets a few light spices fly out, like a little white pepper that tickles the nostrils. The baked sugar has taken on the form of a crunchy confection, tinged with an oily, slightly industrial air.

The palate is powerful but well-balanced in terms of feel. Aromas, on the other hand, are rather dry, slightly woody, rather spicy, with an almost mineral character reminiscent of burnt barrel charcoal.

The finish is light, and the rum tickles the taste buds before wisely fading away.

"A very light rum that will bring a powerful, dry side to your cocktails..."
