Héritiers Madkaud Cuvée Fondamentale XO is a Martinique Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée agricultural rum.
It is distilled in Sainte Marie from pure sugar cane juice. It then ages for 8 years in a tropical climate in small oak barrels. It is bottled with only a reduction of 43°. Of course, there were no additions.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is a scent composed of incense from distant lands, both oriental and Amazonian. Indeed, on the one hand, there are sweet spices and dried fruits which evoke the sunrise, and then on the other, it is vanilla and dried exotic fruits which bring a good dose of the tropics.
Aeration lets out large layers of slightly tangy exotic fruits. We distinguish passion fruit, pineapple, and even a little coconut, then we move towards tannins which melt into tart tatin with sweet spices.
The palate shows a nice character which does not give in to an exclusively fruity ease. On the contrary, it offers something animal, with leather, smoked meat, all with elegance of course, in nuance. The pepper enhances the whole and introduces a handful of resinous tannins, themselves then spreading into licorice and molasses.
The finish is woody and tasty, on nuts and wax.
“A very complete rum which delights the nose and is seriously tasty on the palate…”
