Holey Dollar Rum Silver Coin 40°: Description and customer reviews

Holey dollar comes from hand-cut sugar cane in the Fiji Islands. Pot still distillation gives this rum a rich texture.

Holey dollar Rum Silver Coin can be drunk neat or used to make a cocktail.

Nico's tasting notes

In brief: roasting - wood - solvent - fruit - sweet spices - smoke - complex

The nose opens with an astonishing profile of oily, roasted nut paste, set against an equally oily, chocolatey woodiness. A veil of solvent delivers spicy pineapple, which then opens the profile to something completely different, namely a coppery rum packed with exotic fruits.
On aeration, this highly expressive rum strikes a balance between two styles: the woodiness of Old Monk and the fruitiness of Port Mourant (it's weird, but that's what it is). Added to this are notes of oxidation, pepper, tobacco and stone, making for a rather heavy rum.

The palate is soft and ample, with ripe exotic fruits and very toasty nuts. A little oxidation and powder, then the thick fruit is enhanced by marzipan.

The finish leaves an impression of round, caramelized vanilla rum, with memories of oxidized exotic fruits and a little copper.

"A surprising rum with secondary (fermentation) aromas in full battle with tertiary (cask)..."
