HSE Ragtime is a blend of agricultural rums aged mostly in small American oak barrels (200 liters).
Drink neat or as a "ti vieux"...
Nico's tasting notes
The nose offers a lovely woody bouquet cushioned by oily nuts such as peanuts and walnuts. The tannins are mellow and slightly spicy. The ripe cane has matured with age, taking on rich dried fruit aromas.
Aeration removes the heavier woody notes, leaving us in the presence of a fragrant, fruity cane. A hint of beeswax ensures softness and comfort, before a scarf of vanilla melts us once and for all.
The palate is light, with a fluid rum that leaves a little barrel dust on the taste buds. This then melts into greedy nuts and a very light woodiness. The pepper settles in during this time, eventually becoming quite tasty, without being spicy.
The finish is roundly woody, tender and softly vanilla.
"A very smooth agricultural rum, carried above all by the American oak barrel..."

On the nose 👃🏻: you can smell the cane juice, still young and fresh, slightly lemony and sweet at first taste. The woodiness is light but not at all bland; I find it already interesting and gourmand. It delivers notes of vanilla, honey and a hint of sweet almond. It's a very round rum, with a nice sweetness once again.
On the palate 👅: here too it's fairly round on the attack, but spicier than on the nose. The woodiness brings a little intensity with nutmeg. Some oak tannins are palpable, it's a young, dry woodiness. It remains fairly light, however, and retains those greedy notes of generously sweet nuts. Subsequent sips will deliver more pepper.
The finish is beautiful, moderately long for an amber and moderately spicy. There's clearly the drier aspect of agricole in general. Mostly I'm getting vanilla back in full force with nutmeg, a little cookie side 👌
Verdict ⚡️: for its price, this is a must-have among wood-aged rums 🙂. I find it very well made, elegantly simple and accessible to young, uninitiated palates. As a ti'vieux or other cocktail, why not? But for my part, it goes down very well neat 👌
