Kuna rum is famous for its finish in a barrel containing tobacco from cigar maker Davidoff.
This is another cuvée, Habana Cigar Cask Finish. Kuna rum has been matured in ex-Bourbon oak casks that previously contained Havana cigar leaves.
Cigar makers have developed a method of aging and fermenting tobacco leaves in ex-bourbon oak casks.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose , the roundness and fat of the cigar leaf coat our nostrils without waiting. The rum then takes us into vanilla, sweet and vegetal depths, filled with a heavy and captivating smoke.
The aeration establishes the supremacy of the tobacco leaf which carries distant vegetal nuances rather fresh and green, but above all a fatty, heavy, heavily vanilla side, which also shows some flashes of leather.
On the palate , the blend of flavors is more subtle than one might have imagined. First of all, the rum is very mild, and this moderate power gives the cigar the opportunity to express itself in a rather delicate way. And then the rum also takes its place more, creating a vanilla harmony garnished with nuts, which takes us towards a biscuit or a frangipane with hazelnut cream.
The finish is very pastry-like, the nuts responding to the very fatty cigar leaf which merges with a beautiful vanilla pod.
“A daring marriage that takes on its full meaning in the mouth, thanks to a very delicious harmony…”
