Labourdonnais Gentleman is an artisanal rum produced in Mauritius from pure sugarcane juice.
In 2006, the Labourdonnais estate created the rhumerie des Mascareignes, which 8 years later was renamed the Labourdonnais distillery, now run by Mickael Derunes.
Distilled in column in 2011, this rum has matured for 9 years in the island's tropical climate in new French oak barrels.
This bottling comes from a single cask that issued a total of 510 copies in 2020.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose of this rum has an aspect that could be described as very gastronomic. It's a spicy delicacy that greets us, with nuances of curry, celery, soy sauce, sweet chili and a hint of vegetable broth.
Aeration emphasizes the spiciness, and adds a hint of smoke and roasting. The scorched spices embellish a rich, herbaceous broth, which soon joins more classic notes of nuts and vanilla.
On the palate, all the spices and botanicals come together in a highly perfumed, exotic oak. In the hollow of this wood, we find a ripe cane with accents of celery, aromatics and fresh herbs. A few sweet spices and a hint of milk chocolate add a mellow balm.
The finish is long and delicious, with a peppery cane and hints of celery.
"A unique personality for this gourmet rum made from pure cane juice, with unprecedented flavors..."
