Labourdonnais Premium Rum 40°: Description and customer reviews

Labourdonnais Premium Rum is made in Mauritius from pure estate cane juice and a specially selected sourdough.

Nico's tasting notes

In brief: fruity - apple - lemon sorbet - floral - cane - herbaceous - pepper - light

The nose has an interesting, distinctive and rather unusual fruitiness. Halfway between apple, lemon, peach and melon, it doesn't go for big, ripe, exotic fruit. Like a sorbet in a Normandy hole, its aromas diffuse with the alcohol as it melts. It leaves behind a few spices and a hint of herbs.
With aeration, the nose becomes more acidic, the sweet yellow apple turning into a granny smith. Flowers then stand out, with their sweet nectar, evoking exotic lands, like hibiscus. The vivacity of the lemon sorbet continues to penetrate the nostrils.

On the palate, the rum is light and tingles delicately on the tongue. Fruits and spices trace a path to the throat, with hints of pear, apple and, more briefly, vine peach. The cane is precise and mineral, just like the fruit, not greedy but light.

The finish leaves an impression of natural cane. Although fleeting, it will leave its aromas of pepper, bagasse and lime zest.

"Throughout the tasting, I imagined myself sipping this rum with a scoop of sorbet, like a trou Normand..."

    Surprising and atypical!!!

The first nose has light notes of sugarcane and flowers. Then fruity notes quickly emerge (tart apple reminiscent of Normandy orchards, lemon, lychee).

Apple and sugarcane on the palate, but with chemical smells (tennis ball), lychee and sake. In addition, the finish is watery.

    A fairly short finish.

There are many similarities with Labourdonnais Original. However, I find that this Labourdonnais Premium Rum is lighter (which makes sense, as it draws at 40°). As a result, it feels a little too diluted.

Conclusion: Labourdonnais Premium Rum is original, aromatic and will appeal to lovers of calvados or light, fruity white rums.

In Ti'punch, it should be interesting
