Magnifica de Faria Reserva Soleira cachaça is distilled in the "Alegria" triple still, extracting complex, concentrated aromas.
It is then aged for 3 to over 10 years in 200-liter oak barrels that previously contained bourbon. The ageing system is called soleira. This involves blending eaux-de-vie of different ages in the same barrel.
This particularly aged cachaça is produced in very small quantities.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is rather light, evoking the "Latino" family of rums. The white oak barrel brings its typical notes of vanilla and toasted wood. It clearly takes over from the fresh cane. Lightness is the order of the day, with hints of floral alcohol.
Aeration adds thickness and roundness, with roasted, caramelized exotic fruit. This delicacy is sprinkled with a slightly cooked, candied cane juice. It carries dried fruit flavors, in an almost pastry-like spirit. Rum-soaked raisins and candied fruit confirm this feeling.
The palate first grabs the taste buds with roasted notes of burnt wood and coffee. Mild spices cushion all this and pave the way for dried and candied fruits. The cane arrives in a fairly fine, light trickle. It tightens the profile a little with the bitterness of citrus zest.
The finish is round and luscious, with dried fruit clustering around vanilla.
"The influence of Latin American rums is notable, particularly with the presence of a toasty bourbon barrel and a round, light character..."
