Matusalem Solera 7 40°: Description and customer reviews

Crafted in the tropical lands of the Dominican Republic, Matusalem Solera 7 is a traditional Cuban rum that inherits the secrets of the Camp-Alvarez family, once based in Santiago.

This solera-aged dark rum is appreciated for its smoothness and distinctive Cuban aromas. It is perfect for preparing Cuba libre or the dirty mojito.

Nico's tasting notes

In brief: sweet - vanilla - caramel - toasted wood - coconut - tobacco

On the nose, we have a light rum with ethereal, vanilla-tinged aromas. The toasty woodiness of the barrel has brought out caramel from its innards, with coconut as well. It's a coconut passed through a blowtorch that in turn takes on a little air of sweet hazelnut. The whole is reminiscent of the greediness of certain pipe tobaccos.
Aeration gives a sharper, roasted aspect. The wood is burned once more, releasing fiercer spices and black coffee. All this works well with the molasses and licorice that follow, and which are quickly taken up by a wave of vanilla.

On the palate, the entry is soft and sweet. It flatters the palate with vanilla and caramel that clearly invade the palate. The sweetness evokes memories of favorite confections: candy apples, strawberry or banana candies, barley sugar... Pipe tobacco once again sums up the combination of caramel, vanilla, wood and coconut aromas that unmistakably characterize the aromatic profile of this sweet rum.

The finish is fairly dry, with long-lasting hints of toffee and vanilla.

"A smooth, light rum for easy, relaxed sipping..."

On the nose, this is a sweet, gourmet rum. Notes of vanilla and banana.

On the palate, this rum is full-bodied and quite syrupy. Banana dominates the palate; vanilla is also present. Hints of caramel add to the aromatic bouquet.

A medium-long finish of caramelized banana.

An interesting rum for mixology. I think that in a cocktail with mango juice, guava juice, a few drops of angostura and cane syrup, this Matusalem Solera 7 would be at its best.

. Pure, this rum will delight those who love rons.

4/5 for its price and its interest in mixology

Very good rum, very aromatic. Not as long on the palate as the rums I like, but still excellent value for money.
