New Grove Plantation 40°: Description and customer reviews

Packaged in an attractive transparent bottle, New Grove Plantation is a traditional white rum that appeals both for its simplicity and for its character marked by the tropical influences of Mauritius.

New Grove is a rum with a strength of 40°. Served dry or with an ice cube, it is also suitable for many tropical cocktails.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose of this rum combines notes of caramel and blanc de mélasse brut rum, like a heated cane sugar syrup. This sugar, as it cools, would have created a brittle film, like a candy apple. There's also a hint of "industrial", with smoky, burnt, plastic and metal notes.
Aeration rounds out the edges considerably, and the rum becomes much softer, brioche-like. It's more like puffed, caramelized popcorn. The crude side has also become more refined, and seems to be moving towards a very dark cocoa powder. The more volatile, ethereal notes approach a fruity register, on quince, mango and green papaya.

The rum is sweet on the palate, offering a rather oily butterscotch sensation. The house's typical smokiness almost makes you think of an aged rum that has been filtered to make it translucent. Fruits such as quince, apple and cherry are stewed, and this white rum has a nice consistency. As it stretches in the mouth, it leaves lighter notes of lychee and rose in its wake.

The finish sums up the main features of this rum, namely caramel and cooked sugar.

"This white rum is interesting because it defines the identity of the house, foreshadowing the qualities of its older rums..."

A good little molasses rum, which I like to use in making exotic fruit rhum arrangé.

Not exactly what I was looking for, but not disappointed.
It's soft, has a pleasant scent and is very round on the palate.

On the nose, aromas of almond, eraser, sugar cane, lychee and flowers. Quite floral.
The whole is reminiscent of fabric softener. A moderately intense, elegant nose.

Smooth on the palate. Very easy to drink. Notes of cane, apricot, wax, honey and pepper. The floral side of the nose is also present. Medium intensity.

A rather sweet finish with apricot and flowers.

A rather interesting rum. Pure or in a cocktail, it will do the trick. It doesn't attack the palate. It's easy to use.

This New grove Plantation rum will be perfect in a cocktail with lychee. .

    Very good value for money.
