Old Brothers MGB batch 2 47.9°: Description and customer reviews

Old Brothers MGB batch 2 is the fruit of a blend of 3 barrels of agricultural rums produced by the Bielle distillery on the island of Marie-Galante. Two of these date from 2018 and the third from 2016.

These rums were distilled at Grand-Bourg in Savalle columns, then aged for at least 4 years on site in bourbon barrels. After reduction with Marie-Galantaise rainwater, this rum was bottled without cold filtration. This is the Toulousian bottler's second MGB (Marie Galante Bielle) batch.

A total of 1,267 units are available on the market.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is initially powerful and dry, with intense, ripe fruit supported by a solid core. Mirabelle plum and dried peach coexist with a sweetness of nougat and mastic, giving a very mellow, umami side.

With aeration, the mirabelle plum begins to cook and boil in an abundance of cane sugar, to give us a sticky, terribly seductive jam. The cane juice comes back with a touch of mint, to refresh us and remind us of its agricultural identity.

The palate is very soft and suave, and even surprises with the comfortable warmth it reveals. Yellow fruit jam glides slowly across the palate and clings, before being cleansed by a peppery cane with slightly sharper angles.

The finish is tasty, leaving a little more room for a peppery woodiness with orange peel accents.

"A lovely marmalade of citrus and yellow fruit, backed by a lively cane..."
