Oliver's Exquisito 1990 40°: Description and customer reviews

Oliver's Exquisito 1990 is a creation of the famous house of Oliver & Oliver. Although it is a rum from the Dominican Republic, the influence of this Cuban family is present in every bottling. The art ofblending that characterizes the maestros roneros of this great island is evident.

Thislight molasses rum has been blended with more aromatic eaux-de-vie to create a fine, subtle profile. The oldest Solera rums from which this cuvée is made were distilled in 1990. After being released from its American oak barrels in 2018, this rum was bottled in 1,500 units.

Nico's tasting notes

The first nose gives way to roasting and smoke. One thinks of a whole register revolving around wood fire and toast. All this rounds out and melts away fairly quickly, as the oak begins to flow into sweet spices.

Aeration brings out a lovely complexity, where roasting is hand in hand with gourmandise. All this comes to life in the form of toasted, caramelized and vanilla-scented nuts.

On the palate, it's the fruity, tangy side that takes the reins, like grenadine syrup with cane sugar. The burnt oak gives a toasty veil to the mid-palate, which then opens up to a soft, vanilla woodiness.

The finish is very smooth, summing up the mouth with a fruity, vanilla syrup.

"The fruitiest rum in the series, very round and greedy..."
