Peat's Beast is an Undisclosed Distillery single malt.
Bottled by Fox Fitzgerald since 2010, this whisky is, as its name suggests, a promise of straight peat!
Our tasting note from Thomas
The nose perfectly matches its name. The peat is smoky and salty, sailing through seaweed-rich waters. Licorice stick, camphor, pear nectar and a hint of vanilla are also quickly revealed.
Aeration reveals musk and a touch of minerality. Then lemon makes a clean breakthrough, along with a hint of breadcrumbs.
The palate seems lively, but less marked by smoke and the marine aspect, still in search of efficiency. Instead, we perceive camphor and seaweed with a hint of musk. Aromas revolving around peat return to the basics: pear nectar, vanilla, lemon and bread.
The finish is fairly restrained, with camphorated peat that returns late to the smoke and salinity of the nose. There's also a hint of chocolate, lemon and slivered almonds.
" A whisky that plays on the exuberance of its peat, underlined by classic but effective notes..."
