Phraya Gold 40°: Description and customer reviews

Phraya Gold is a Thai molasses rum produced by the Sangsom distillery. It is a blend of rums aged from 7 to 12 years.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose opens with a rich, fruity balance, discreetly supported by soft white oak. The fruit is ripe and bursting with sugar, accompanied by dried fruits such as dates and figs. There are also some very sweet nuts and crushed coconut flesh.

With aeration, the rum takes on greater fullness and fatness, always in remarkable balance. The fruit is always right alongside the oak, in a sort of spicy, laughing nougat.

The palate is gently spicy, and delivers that famous balance of ripe fruit and soft white wood. It's greedy, but not easy, as this rum shows a real work of perfumed fermentation, with just the right balance of woodiness. The spices then take hold of the palate in the mid-palate, for a surprisingly dry, astringent phase.

The finish is more gently spicy, with a veil of vanilla, as well as a little honey and molasses.

"A very fine balance for this Thai rum, which offers a basket of colorful fruits just set with white wood..."

I really enjoyed this vanilla and slightly fruity rum. It's well-balanced with no false notes. I preferred it to many rums from better-known distilleries and destinations. What's more, it has no additives.

  2. Tony Coulibeuf

A friend of mine told me about phraya so I decided to order it to discover it. Very good rum for a Thai.

    a rum with a difference!
    it's a bit like a whisky
if you're tired of overly fruity rums

  4. samyr

This rum bears a strong resemblance to rice alcohol, especially on the nose, and on the palate too, but in the end it's quite sweet after the explosive starter, even quite greedy. Very original in any case, I recommend it for the curious.
